Beautiful Darkness Has a New Cover!
We couldn’t wait to share this with all of you! * drum roll *
The final cover of BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS, in stores October 12th!
Covers change all the time between the ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) and the final versions you see in the bookstore. There are all sorts of reasons, but we think our cover designer David Caplan’s might be the best because it’s something that happens to writers all the time.
Does an idea ever hit you, out of the blue?
You’re just hanging out listening to Black Sabbath (if you’re Kami) or the soundtrack to Spring Awakening (if you’re Margie), and you have an insane flash — a title hits you, the name of a character, the perfect ending, the thesis to your English paper that you have no idea how to start. The same thing can happen when you’re an artist/cover designer. We all loved the first cover for BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS, but an idea hit Dave & he ran with it. When he shared it with everyone, we all went wild! Not only is it gorgeous, but it has a connection to the story you’ll understand after you read BD.

The Authors
Kami Garcia is a teacher and reading specialist with an MA in education, and leads book groups for children and teenagers. Margaret Stohl has an MA in English and studied creative writing under poet George MacBeth at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. They both live in Los Angeles, California, with their families. Beautiful Creatures is their debut novel.

I love it!! I liked the previous cover a LOT too, but I think this one kind of has more visual depth and reality, if that makes sense… And the two books look awesome together!
It’s very dark and intriguing!!! I already love it but I can’t wait to see what those steps mean!!!! =P
I like the surprise cover change. The first time I saw the cover change was on the widget on my blog. I was like what the heck…. is someone playing a prank? Can’t wait to see why a staircase made it on the cover. Its completely random to me, and thats why I like it.
Oooh, and this brings the first cover into a much sharper and more specific context — it’s the approach to the house.

Ooh! I don’t know which one I love more. I loved BC because of the purple, but the blue is pretty, too! And I love the stairs. But I love the trees. Hmm. It’s a tie, they are both equally gorgeous!

I really love the new cover, but I also loved the old one. I guess it was good I grabbed an ARC at BEA; now I’ve got a collectible (well, even more of one, lol)!! Congrats on the gorgeous new cover!

Looks amazing! I loved the fence, but I think the staircase is more “hauntingly beautiful!” I wish I could see the new beside the old, because my memory’s fading. :D
Too bad my ARC won’t have the new cover… Aw, well. As long as I get to read it!
